Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Diploma Level 5

This module introduces the principles of safeguarding vulnerable adults and explains why safeguarding procedures are important in care and support environments. Learners will develop awareness of responsibilities involved in protecting individuals from harm and ensuring their wellbeing.

This module covers key safeguarding legislation and the role of legal frameworks in protecting vulnerable individuals. Learners will understand how laws, guidance, and procedures support effective safeguarding practices within organisations.

This module focuses on recognising different forms of abuse and neglect that vulnerable individuals may experience. Learners will develop awareness of warning signs, risk factors, and the importance of responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns.

This module explores safeguarding policies and the responsibilities of individuals involved in protecting vulnerable adults. Learners will understand the importance of following procedures, maintaining accountability, and supporting effective safeguarding arrangements.

This module highlights the importance of effective communication within care and safeguarding environments. Learners will understand how clear communication supports positive relationships, information sharing, and appropriate responses to individual needs.

This module focuses on the principles of information sharing and responding to safeguarding disclosures. Learners will develop awareness of how to handle concerns appropriately while maintaining confidentiality and following relevant procedures.

This module explains the process of reporting safeguarding concerns and the importance of accurate reporting. Learners will understand how timely action and correct procedures contribute to protecting vulnerable individuals.

In module one, we will learn what safeguarding means and why children may require safeguarding. It explores key safeguarding practices and principles.

In module two, we will get an in-depth understanding of child safeguarding laws, exploring key legislation and guidance. It covers the fundamental principles of The Children Act 1989.

In module three, we will learn about the different types of child abuse and neglect, taking a look at both emotional and physical abuse. We will also learn how to identify the signs of abuse, through case studies and audio-visual guidance.

In module four, we will take a detailed look at the different types of child sexual exploitation and their impact on children. We will also learn how to identify the signs of sexual exploitation in children.

In module five, we will learn what to do when a child makes a disclosure and how to handle that personal information. It also discusses why children may be reluctant to make a disclosure.

In module six, we will be guided through each step of the child safeguarding risk assessment and will learn how to identify child protection and safeguarding risk.

In module seven, we will learn what should be included in a child safeguarding referral and how to report a child at risk of harm. It explores action to be taken after a referral to child’s social care.

In this final module, we will explore best practice procedures for child safeguarding record-keeping, why record keeping is important and how to fill out a safeguarding report.
