In module one, we will learn about the role and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant, including the ideal characteristics and skills required for this profession.
In module two, we will explore the ways in which Teaching Assistants can support the learning process and what type of developments are required for a TA in their professional life. It covers mandatory professional practice and practical support for colleagues.
In module three, we will deepen our understanding of the role of schools as organisations, the UK school system, the National Curriculum, and the structure of the school year. It also provides an in-depth overview of teaching policies.
In module four, we will learn a range of planning and assessment strategies, covering key topics such as monitoring, feedback, recording and performance reviews. We will also sharpen our organisation and time management skills.
In module five, we will take a look at what constitutes a safe working environment, with guidance on first aid procedures, child safeguarding and the school learning environment as a whole.
In module six, we will learn how to promote ICT, literacy and numeracy development through engaging classroom activities. It includes essential information on teaching the first day of class and implementing ICT equipment.
In module seven, we will develop our understanding of the key stages of child development and special educational needs, with guidance on how to create an equal, diverse and inclusive learning environment.
In module eight, we will learn through case studies how good teaching influences good behaviour and explore the factors that influence behaviour in a classroom environment.
In module nine, we will look at techniques for enhancing communication with students, such as NLP and de-escalation. It also covers disciplinary procedures, work discussion groups and emotional/behavioural difficulties.
In this final module, we will explore the key elements underpinning a professional framework for Teaching Assistants, training and qualifications required for the role, and how to become a teacher after working as a Teaching Assistant.
