At the end of the Mental Health Safeguarding Level 3 Course, there will be an online assessment, which you will need to pass to complete the course. Answers are marked instantly and automatically, allowing you to know straight away whether you have passed. If you haven’t, there’s no limit on the number of times you can take the final exam. All this is included in the one-time fee you paid for the course itself.

Course Curriculum

In module one, we will take an in-depth look at the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and its key FIVE principles, as well as the code of practice for the MCA.

In module two, we will explore the process for assessing capacity, with step-by-step guidance on how to challenge the result of an assessment of capacity.

In module three, we will familiarise with the best interest decision-making guide and common disputes regarding best interest. It covers the Balance sheet principle, Least Restrictive Principle and factors that need to be taken into consideration.

In module four, we will learn what happens when treatment is refused and what powers the Lasting Powers of Attorney have. It also explores the role of the Independent Mental Capacity Advocate.

In module five, we will take a look at safeguarding procedures in mental health care and ways to protect people from neglect who lack the capacity to make decisions on their treatment.

In module six, we will learn about confidentiality and record-keeping best practice in mental health care, and how to protect the privacy of patients who lack mental capacity.

In module seven, we will gain an in-depth understanding of the Court of Protection and Deputies, covering key topics such as Mental Capacity tribunals, The Public Guardian, and Mediation.

In module eight, we will explore the different legislation regarding MCA, including The MCA and Human Tissue Act 2004, and The MCA and Assessment Processes Across Health and Social Care.

In module nine, we will familiarise with the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Procedure and best interest principles. It covers responsibility for applying the safeguards and how to know when an application should be made.

In module ten, we will learn about the authorisation of deprivation of liberty, with essential information on timescale of assessment, right to advocacy, and temporary changes in mental capacity.

In module eleven, we will explore codes of practice in mental health care, with step-by-step training in safeguarding from abuse and neglect. It also covers the role of regulatory bodies and Coroner duties.

In module twelve, we will explore the use of MCA and DoLS in a pandemic, including essential information on COVID-19.  It covers fundamental topics such as delivering life-saving treatment, hospitals and care homes, and emergency public health powers.

In module thirteen, we will deepen our knowledge of the Liberty Protection Safeguards and how they differ to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. It covers duration of the authorisation, conditions and renewals, and rights of legal challenge.
